Flat roofs collect water and experience high temperatures.
Gilsonite products
- Roof coatings to renew old membranes
- Roofing cements for repairs
- Primers
Benefits
Heat resistance, water resistance and durability.

Typical problems on flat roofs
- Ponding water that never drains
- Blistering caused by trapped moisture
- Cracks at upstands and parapets
- UV ageing that makes old membranes brittle
Renewing a roof with gilsonite products
- Clean the roof and remove loose gravel.
- Cut and repair blisters; let them dry.
- Seal cracks and joints with gilsonite roofing cement.
- Apply a primer on exposed concrete or metal.
- Apply one or two coats of gilsonite roof coating, with fabric reinforcement at details.
Why gilsonite coatings
Gilsonite raises the heat resistance of roof coatings, so they do not run on slopes in summer. They dry to a harder, less tacky surface that picks up less dirt.
Maintenance
Inspect roofs twice a year and after storms. Small repairs made early prevent leaks inside the building.
