Fluid loss control additive bag at the packing machine

Drilling Fluid Grade Gilsonite

HPHT fluid loss control and shale stabilizer for oil-based and water-based drilling muds.

Key benefits

  • Reduces HPHT fluid loss
  • Stabilizes shale and micro-fractures
  • Reduces torque, drag and sticking
  • Stable above 150 °C

Product overview

Drilling fluid grade gilsonite is milled to about 200 mesh and supplied in several softening point ranges. At downhole temperature the particles soften and seal pores and micro-fractures, reducing HPHT fluid loss, stabilizing shale and adding lubricity.

Applications

  • Oil-based and synthetic muds
  • Water-based muds (with dispersant)
  • Lost circulation pills
  • Horizontal and HPHT wells
