Application Tips for Gilsonite Sealers

- Apply in dry weather above the minimum temperature
- Clean surface of dirt and oil
- Prime oil spots
- Apply two thin coats rather than one thick coat
- Keep traffic off until cured
- Avoid application on new asphalt until it has aged enough
Best conditions
- Air and surface temperature above 10 °C and rising
- No rain expected for at least 24 hours
- Low humidity for emulsions
Preparation
- Sweep and blow the surface clean.
- Remove vegetation from cracks.
- Treat oil spots with a primer.
- Fill cracks and repair potholes first.

Application
- Stir sealer thoroughly before use.
- Apply with a squeegee or spray in thin, even coats.
- Work in sections and keep a wet edge.
- Allow the first coat to dry before the second.
After application
Barricade the area and keep vehicles off until the sealer has cured – often several hours, longer in cool weather.
